It sure does not look like plate its solid all i did was wash it off with warm water and a cloth , i asked the lady who used to own this house what the name of the original owners last name was she said Livingston L ?

that is a beauty! congrats!

Re: Old Gorham silver table spoon

Nice looking Victorian era spoon :icon_thumleft:

Re: Old Gorham silver table spoon

Very nice looking spoon. Usually the letter on front stands for the first letter of families last name. Go check records and see if someone in past owned the house with last name that started with an L. Kids might of been playing down there with the spoon.
:hello: HH in 2010

Re: Old Gorham silver table spoon

That could have gotten away from a silverware horde. :icon_thumleft:

I'd check that basement real good. :headbang:

What a great find !! :notworthy:

Keep @ it and HH !! :D ;D

Re: Old Gorham silver table spoon

Nice find

Gorham was one of the premier silver makers in the 19th century and their work is highly collectible.

Keep looking, must be some more oldies hiding down there in that trash :headbang:

Brian

The old silver spoons are so pretty. I wish they still made them like that. :-[

I ordered a 5.3 sniper coil for the dfx at Kellyco that should work in a tight space

Re: Old Gorham silver table spoon

can you please get better clearer photo of the back markings? To me the spoon itself doesn't look to be sterling... thanks

The L your referring to isn't part of the hallmark, it is the Initial for a families last name or person...

Re: Old Gorham silver table spoon

I'm pretty sure it's plated.. I could be wrong but pretty big chance it's plated an not sterling.. Bad part is it was dug so the edge where I normally look for wear I don't know if it's dirty or worn down to copper/bronze or what ever metal they used base

Thanks guys i wasnt sure that's the third spoon i found ill just add it to my collection HH Jim

It's a nice addition to any collection of patterns.

Man, I would be digging, and sifting that whole area...Great find....Tom

wait a second.it has a cross hallmark after the anchor.according to the chart the cross means it was made in 1886.
OK i just looked at pics again.it appears there's copper or brass coloring on edges of handle? if thats the case..there is your answer.PLATED
if it was real sterling it would have the 3 symbols together on the right side of that chart stamped on back of handle.

thank you Metal for giving a 2nd opinion.. I also posted that I thought it was plated but since it was dug I couldn't tell if the edges had dirt or was the base metal.. I was fairly sure it was the base metal but without knowing for a fact I didn't want to say 100% it was plated....
