Hi I'm posting this violin for a friend that found it in her fathers home near Baton Rouge Louisiana.Everything in the pictures was in the case with the violin when found. The only mark I could find was the "HOPF" mark in black ink on the inside of the body.It measures 23 1/2" from top to bottom & is 8" wide at its widest point. As I'm sure you can see in the pictures that it is in fairly rough condition as well.I was wondering if anyone could provide any insight on possible origin of creation, era made or if it would be worth repairing in its current condition. As all thank you an advance for any help you could provide & happy hunting !:laughing7:

I'm sure you've already googled Hopf violins and know that some of them can be very rare. A detached finger board and bridge sure don't seem like a big enough deal not to treat this old girl with some deserved TLC. Your friend should check the bow for a signature also, as occasionally a fine bow of another maker will accompany a lesser grade violin. (sig. should be on the inside near the adjusting screw.

Hi & thank you Johnny ! Yes the bow reads G. A. Pfretzschner & has a star after the name.Thank you for the information.
