I regularly beachcomb at our town’s old dump site...I believe the beach dump was used from the early to mid 1900s, based on some of the items I’ve found there...I have three items that I’ve found that I can’t find any information on! Hoping someone here can help!

The first one, I couldn’t tell exactly what it was when I grabbed it...it was super corroded, but I thought it looked like maybe a little metal sack of coins, like from a pirate toy or something lol but when I started to clean it up, I found what looks to be a bearded man, sitting on an icy globe, holding some sort of piece of wood maybe? It’s gold colored, but I don’t know if it’s actually gold...I couldn’t find my sort of makers mark on it...and I can’t see any sign of what it might have been originally...no remnants of a pin/tack/bail..so it has me thoroughly curious!

The second one, I thought might have been a military pin/badge, but I can’t find anything online (description or image search) that looks like it may be what it once was...it’s pretty corroded, but I can still see some of the embossing...I can see what looks like possible wording on the top or bottom (depending on which is which...I can’t tell! Lol) from one view, it almost looks like a lotus flower or something.. from the other, maybe a palm tree lol I’m completely confused by this one! I can’t find any identifying marks on this one either...and I’m not sure what metal it’s made of...kind of on the heavier side, almost like vintage printing block plates I’ve also found there..I don’t think it’s lead...but not 100% on that! It’s got what looks like the remnants of a pin back and a checkered patterned engraved into it...I attached photos of it in both views, in hope that it helps with the identification! :)

And the third, I’ve got no idea what it could have been! Lol I picked it up, thinking it was a little metal steering wheel...but upon closer inspection, it literally looks like a steampunk owl to me! Lol while trying to clean it, the “owl’s” body detached, but I was still able to set it in place for pictures...the picture of the back was from directly after I found it, hence all the rust ;)

Thank you, in advance, for any help in these identifications!! ❤️

Nice finds! I see a palm tree on the pin or button. Love the wise old owl!

The first piece reminds me of Robert Edwin Peary's North Pole Discovery.
"On his 1898 -1902 expedition, Peary set a new "Farthest North" record by reaching Greenland's northernmost point, Cape Morris Jesup. Peary made two further expeditions to the Arctic, in 1905, 1906 and in 1908, 1909. During the latter, he claimed to have reached the North Pole. On April 6, 1909, American explorer Robert Peary accomplishes a long elusive dream, when he, assistant Matthew Henson and four Inuits reach what they determine to be the North Pole."

The second piece may be trophy decoration or possibly from a document box of some type.

The third piece is probably made of pot metal and once again, is probably furniture hardware/decoration.

Best of luck to you on your beach hunts Mandy,
Dave

You nailed it with the Peary pin. I found a button on ETSY with a similar image- Peary perched at the top of the world.

Thank you!! Sorry, I didn’t see this until now! I kept checking notifications and it was just showing “likes” on this post so I didn’t realize anyone had responded! Can’t wait to read more about this guy!

What is up with the apostrophes and quotation marks? Do they look like a bunch of different symbols to everyone else? Not sure if it’s a site glitch, or my phone! Lol

Treasure Net did some recent 'upgrades', the most noticeable change was to the size reduction of the photo's we upload and for some reason the site now has some glitches. :laughing7:
Best of luck to you Mandy,
Dave
