Found this at a sale and haven't bought it yet but have the guy's contact. Usually I would contact my sword guy but my phone is broken and I don't have his email (anyone know Oliver Pinchot by any chance). Because of that I'm posting on here to see if any of y'all can shed some light on this. It isn't in the best of shape but it does look to be folded steel with the lighter harder edge like they used back in the day.

Does anyone have any ideas about the sword and does anyone understand what is written on the blade?

Thanks.

So far I am going with my gut and saying it is more modern. I've been trying to trust my gut recently and so far I haven't made any horrible purchases by trusting it.

From what I can see it appears to be low quality. Hard to say though

Nice score,,,
BUT
I'm not seeing the telltale black lines of the folded Damascus styled steel I am used to seeing with these swords.
It could be there but from the pics here,, I can't see it.

its worth a chance at a lower price, In ww11 most of these swords were destroyed by the USA to demoralize the japanese people. So there are very few left compared to the many millions that were destroyed.

Images are blurry but there is damascus in the patterning. The lettering appears to be hiragana. Most likely a WW2 sword. Neat find.
