Old Lock from the Creek (NEW RESTORED PICS)

I played host to a fellow detectorist today and we hit a couple of my old favorites. First site was a strike out so we decided to get into a local stream for some water hunting. I found this massive lock in the creek. I'm thinking it's 1700s but will take any opinions.

Now for the cannonballs...I didn't find them. my guest did! We were hunting the site I've been hunting all summer and had almost given up on but since we didn't have many sites at our disposal we decided it would be worth our while...it was certainly worth his while. two 4 pounders in one hole! He left quite happy to say the least...his first AND second!

Fully restored and even operational...if I only had the key!

The lock appears to be period. It is nice to see you back. We are going to probably get started in a couple weeks. The fields are looking ready. Was it IP? Alright!

Thanks Kirk...I haven't been out much lately but that's all about to change. Crops are coming down and the bulls are moving on...sites are opening up Looking forward to your posts! No, not IP...although I'm expecting him at some point this fall!

Yep, I'll probably get it soaking in the zinc and lye this week...should clean up good. It's been in the creek for a long time, the sand and rocks are like cement and will need to be chipped off...

That's a beauty of a Pad lock there...so your just giving those cannonballs away now? I tried for 2 days down there...but I guess that's what happens when you have your own...good to see your back at it...

What a honker that is! At this stage of the game you should be more happy with the lock than a couple more cannon balls... I know I would be.
