Out today detecting an old mansion site. Think it was used 16th century.
Found 2 musket balls and a larger one think its a musket ball as well but correct me if I'm wrong.
2 rifle bullets, think the site was used as a ww1 rifle range. Was about to head home for my tea when I decided to do one more search on my way to the fence when I got a faint tone. I dug about 3 inches then I seen roundness. I thought it was a large hoop but then I pulled it out. Some kind of ring. There isn't any hallmark on it. I'm not good with ring IDs so any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the firth hands, I've just put the fire on ๐Ÿ˜Š

Thanks for looking

I'm from Scotland. I was thinking the same. It's very large. I might melt some wax any try it. Thanks for your replies.

Very cool find! That ring is very interesting....hope you can find out more about it. Could be much older than the site you are hunting....Medieval? Roman? I don't know much about that stuff but it does look like a wax seal ring. At first I though the design might be a fouled anchor or something like that but now I'm not really sure. I know someone will have an idea on this site. Ask CRUSADER. If he doesn't he can probably direct you to someone who will.

Interesting looking piece, I'm confused by the symbol on it but my gut thinks 17th C. As its copper-alloy gilt it will have no hallmark.

Knew you wouldn't be far behind! Symbol is interesting isn't it. Maybe the anchor thought wasn't too far off....looks like linked chain at the bottom part of the design. Best guess....

Congrats on awesome finds! Welcome to T-Net! Looks like an old anchor symbol on the ring, I'm sure somebody on here knows.

It kind of reminds me of a symbol a secret organisation would have.
