I have had this thing for years. It measures 9" long. The handles look to be rosewood. The blade has a weird drop blade. The blade is made of tempered steel. The blade has only been ground on one side with teeth filed on an angle to saw. I can saw through wood with it. I know that the practice of sharpening a blade pre Civil War was one side on axes. The blade is quite stout. What is it? My thinking it is a surgical instrument, knife or saw. Thanks friends.

Oyster knife? that's what came to mind anyway, doesn't look like the surgeons saws I've seen, but then, I'm sure there are plenty I haven't seen.

Looks like a nice, old, and well worn offset bread knife that someone tried to add serrations to.

I agree with creskol. Although that knife has some obvious age and wear to it, with what appear to be hand made serrations, I don't think it's ever been used as a medical saw. The offset blade shape is more in line with a bread/ sandwich knife.
