old military button maybe..please help

found this button yesterday and from what you can see from the pics it says "U S" on the front, on the backside , i can make out the letters un t d, maybe united?? any help would be great

If I recall correctly (IIRC) this pattern dates to circa 1830. They find those around here around Fort Winnebago.

Yep a great coat button from around the 1830's. A cool find. I believe the backmark is UNITED STATES on that button

Yes, your right,, I slept a few times since them though
Sold it for $60,, was to cheap for sure..I was in excellent shape.
