Metal Detecting
I found this old miner's pick detecting on some private property near the south fork of the American River in El Dorado county, Ca. It was heavily corroded so it has spent about 4 days in cleaning strength vinegar and is now coated with gun oil. There were no identifying marks on it. I need to dig more iron when I'm out in the remote locations. If anyone is interested in joining me on some detecting hunts near El Dorado county, Ca, PM me. Ed.

Congrats on the nice relic! :icon_thumleft:

Old rusty tools are always a fun find. But they get awful heavy after carrying a few miles out of the woods.

Congrats. Great job cleaning it.

Thanks Dave, now I know what they are called. I have found two of them so far; one a little bigger than the other.

Ed144,that's the older style drifting pick..the newer ones have a narrower elyptical eyelet. If you find one that has a pick on one end and a small squarish hammerhead on the other side..that's called a Pol pick...brought over by the cousin jacks from Wales.
