Old nail or set?

Tearing down an old stone chimney that was attached to a 1700's log cabin and found a few of these cut nails discarded within the stone I guess as the chimney was being erected. Anyhow I also found this more cylinder type object with a kind of a cap on top and only the bottom of the shaft is cut or shaped like the cut nails. Holding it, it feels like a nail-set. Any ideals on what it may be? I tried looking up old type cut nails and found one that looked similar and was labeled as a coffin nail. Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like a plump anchor, not a nail set or countersink.

Have you ever heard of a duplex nail (used with a plumb bob or string/line)?

If not a plummet or plumb anchor for a straight masonry job on that fireplace, it could be an awl or scribe for marking the bricks for cutting.
