Walking next to a 4' washout on a camp and found this with 2" showing about 2'deep in washout. About 4" still stuck in the back. Excitement lead to disappointment when I pulled it out. Looks old,old..........No fine work just rough chipped into shape.

Looking like a hoe or Celt super find !!!

Looks like a real big chipped celt a great find:notworthy:

with the end being flat like that it could go allot of different ways. Could of been used just as is or might of not been finished. Does the end so cortex on it or has it been snapped? Tools, some are just a guess as to how they were used. Id been happy to find it, nice find.

What state was it found in? I find archaic blades about that size made of rhyolite here in NC. The ones I find on eroded red clay hills look rough, as does yours. The ones I find are no older than my nicer points, just weathered really bad.

Kinda small for a hoe I do believe. Not all are big though. The ones around here are 6 inches and larger but not every place is the same. I believe it is a knife type of tool. Keeper

Found in scenic southern Illinois NC.. and 2' deep in the this ground is almost clay anywhere you go. I never thought it would have been a celt or hoe as as there is no sign of polish anywhere. Thanks all for the comments

It looks like a broken celt to me by the photos.
If there's a lot of patina on the material you're not going to see polish

I agree your not always gonna see polish on the older pieces ;)

Good find Heavy Fletch.....nice color and BIG! :)

Nice celt/hoe find. Just like most tools today they were used until broken/lost.
