Old Padlock or what?

Can’t figure out if this is an old padlock or part of a door lock mechanism. Was at old house place. Any ideas?

Not sure what it is the pattern on it looks to be nice when cleaned up though

I think your picture is upside down. Looks like a padlock that was mounted to something(chest,door, cabinet).

That would be worth cleaning up using reverse electrolysis. It looks like an ornate padlock.
