Old Park Hunt (Gold) updated

Went out today to hit the Old Park again today. I was with a new detecting buddy. He just got his first detector yesterday and I was giving him some tips. He was following me around so when I got a good tone I wanted him to hear what to listen for in a good tone. The area we were hunting was a area that several good detectorist have gone over the past few weeks including me. I got a low tone that was very iffy. I thought it might be a pull-tab or a nickel. I decided to dig it and am I glad I did. It turned out to be a 32nd Degree Mason Pendant from I believe is from about 1880's. This is known by the owners name which is engraved inside. My buddy heard me calling out saying I found gold. He just chuckled and thought I was joking at first till he looked at my face. He came over and could not believe it's condition. I am still shaking over it. Happy Hunting.

Yep, it pays to dig the low tones too I see.

FABULOUS FIND! :notworthy: I've just nominated this for Banner and hope this gets the ball rolling! Not only is this an old, unusual, golden, rare find in marvelous condition with the Mason's name inscribed on it, the finder has found the man's great-nephew! What's not to like?! :hello2: WOW! Have fun, everyone! HH Andi

Very nice find camb1!!! You should be stoked! Congrats.

Thanks KennyD. I am still very excited about this find. I just feel sorry for my new detecting buddy that was with me on his first detecting trip. I hope I did not ruin him and he thinks this is going to happen often. I explained to him that these finds are far in-between.

Here is some of my research on this piece. The owner moved into my county in 1843 and started a family apple orchard. It is still going today just a few miles from old location. I know his son moved into the town that I live and his house was destroyed by the 1925 Tri-State Tornado. His wife was also killed. He moved back to his fathers old home-site where he lived until he sold the land to the state to be used as a state park. I do not know if the father or the son lost this piece. I will continue research to find his age when the owner moved into this country. HH

Same here. Rained all weekend off and on. Can't wait for warmer and dryer weather.

Time to try this area again. Got permission to hunt another home-site near here.

That is gorgeous !

I can just hear it tomorrow morning... "guess what I found last night"

Hopefully you didnt get that caddy stuck!

Why haven't this one been awarded as a banner find yet?

I vote banner! Cool find, congrats!
Did you get it checked out on it's purity?

Yes, I have a gold tester and scales myself. 17 grams of 14k yellow gold.

17 grams of plain 14K gold would be nice so this complex and finelly worked jewelry piece is an outstanding find.
WJ may have missed it when he lost it back in the days so you should enjoy it for having the patience (and the luck...) to find it!!

All I can do is echo what's already been said and say " Congrats on a very special find"

I'm usually hesitant to nominate jewelry finds for the Banner. However, yours has historical significance, great eye appeal, high value and a nice story with a happy ending for you and the family. I agree with many of my fellow T-Net members and will be submitting my nomination for this find to make the Banner! Thanks for sharing.
