Hi everyone - I got out for a quick dig at one of my current favorite colonial-era properties (1810) yesterday and found this ring (first target!)
I've run over the property with my Equinox (I started searching with the 15" coil and then switched to the 6") - the 6" definitely helped me find a couple of silver dimes the 15" coil missed.

I then started using my Simplex (the new SF update made me do it!). Success! I've found two old coppers, a 2 cent piece (1864), a key, and this ring with it!

Thanks in advance for any info. on this this ring that would help ID the stone/date. I'm guessing it's plastic - but, I no nothing about gems ...

Eric
PS: I'd love anyone's advice adding a machine to my collection - I'm considering the Nokta Impact - anyone have any experience with it?!
PPS: Would love any insights on the key too!

The issue with these is this style has been made continually from 1800's to date. Maybe the actual metal composition would tell the age easier.

I too have found a lot of early-20thc brass rings, but I can count on one hand those that still had their stone setting.

Once again, Matt has 'hit the nail on the head' or in this case 'the ring' with his info. :notworthy:

Beautiful find.... just let me just say, how many detectors do you need Eric... you can't take them with you when you die?! :laughing7:
