I dug these up at 2 different locations, the Ruby ring was at an old late 1800's schoolhouse. its cheap 1-10th gold but the Ruby is interesting, I can't scratch it with a steel bladed knife, and under my 30X microscope it has black lines and bubble like craters, which looks like some other Rubies I have seen... I guess my next stop is the Jeweler down the road,,,but seriously, rolled gold and a real Ruby? this is guarenteed old, it was in a extremely low traffic area, and it was pretty deep, btw it was dug almost 20 years ago with my GMHCX. THe yellow (ZIRCON)?? was at a beach a few years ago, again crappy Rolled gold, but nice looking stone.

I forgot I had the Ruby ring tucked away in an old cigar box, I need to rummage some more.

I love that yellow ring. It's the color of my birthstone !!!!

AS a rule, High quality stones are mounted in high 14kt + rings. Frank...111-1 profile.webp

Depening on your knife it won't scratch quatz many other crystaline minerals. Corundum is a LOT harder than knife steels -and is red, yellow or several other shades. Garnet is a little harder than steel, but enough so you couldn't scratch it with a knife.

Mohs Hardness Scale

I have a ton of Garnets, maybe I can try to scratch it with that..:)
