Old road&lost houses, in a Park still used today!!
Como Park has been used for many years . There is trash just like any other park , pull tabs ,shreaded up beer cans , foil and all the fixins....So trying to detect it is a challenge!
So recently I was going over a 1850 map that I have and I decided to look at the area of the park. While doing so I noticed that there was a road along the creek that runs straight through the park and goes all along the creek to the cross road on the other side of the park . My next plan was to make sure and I compared the old map to the new map of today and in doing so , there was no road on the new map.....
Now with the road came the houses !!! on the 1850 map there were 6 houses that at one time were along the old road....
So today would be the day to go and check out the area. When I got to the park I drove around and looked for anything that can clue me in on at least one of the old house areas...I found an area and it looked to be a good start...and it was ...Finding a bunch of pulltabs ,great for the pull tab collector...but on I went and along a ridge next to the creek out poped a mercury dime, that was nice and kept me going ,making my way to an area where there are some huge Pine trees that looked like they were planted 50 years ago ...it looked like the area was moved around or graded at one time....Now as I started detecting in this area I was getting deep signals and out came the copper piece with the picture on it ,at a depth of 10 inches. so this area got the blood pumping ...so now I just focused on the deep targets and out came a 1865 Indian head penny with a hole in it....then a buckle and another buckle...
Still with all the garbage hits along the surface I just focused on the deep signals and it payed off with 2 more indian heads and some buttons....This park has been detected for ever and most of the silver and shallow targets have been found....So with the day getting late and almost time to go i decided to make my way back to the truck along the ridge by the creek and found the rest of the items along with another mercury dime, and some pennies ...Many times I have been to this park and until I looked at the map and found the old road ,I might have never knew about that site.....have fun and keep on digging!!!!!!!!!!!
