Old, beaten pathways that lead away from major roads are where one would hide treasure. Most of today's modern roads were built on old trader, pioneer and aboriginal trails. So, it would only make sense that the smaller footpaths that go into woodlands would be most ideal for a genocidal European gold prospector from the 1500s to hide some loot.

IMHO definitely. The only sure answer to questions about an area is to get out there and give it a try. Sometimes not so great, sometimes really good, but one you hunt it you'll know for sure.
