old state map kits from lost treasure; any good?

I am trying to find some old maps that will be of benefit and wondered if anyone has bought any of the maps from lost treasure magazine. Are they any good in terms of identifying areas, such as old roads, etc? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I can only speak for myself.

I have never stooped to buying any map which offered buried treasurer of any sort. Those I know who have, never had any luck.

I can say the same thing for old ghost town maps, no matter who offered or sold them. Some are so bad, that the real site of the ghost town is miles away! That's not all.

Nowadays, one has to be very careful not to dig at sites owned by the fed, whichever entity you wish to speak of. Of the few maps I've seen, none of them listed modern boundaries. Without them, you're better off with a DeLorme contour map with important milestones (silos, windmills, etc.) listed.

Save your money!

I appreciate the feedback. The maps I am interested in supposedly show old road beds, railroads, and the like, not a treasure map. But no illustration is on the website to go by, so if it is just the run of the mill state map with county boundaries that are for free online, then that isn't going to help. If anyone has purchased maps from them I would love to hear feedback on them. I am looking at the kit that has railroad and old road maps from the 1800s. If I can't find any positive information I won't purchase them but I told the wife I would like to have some old maps for Christmas. I thought they might help identify some places in my area.

Why waste your money? Try this site: U.S. Historical Topographic Maps - Perry-Castañeda Map Collection - UT Library Online for free. It had topo maps of my area from 1886!
