I recently found a site that also has those same maps that cover New England
http://docs.unh.edu/nhtopos/nhtopos.htm
which I've been using quite a bit. Printed out pieces of the 1903 USGS yesterday.

Have you managed to find any maps that were as accurate covering older time periods? (I haven't yet.)

BlackX,

I haven't found anything on the internet. But USGS has a large facility near my house. I wonder if there is any public access to their archive.

I WAS able to compare the old USGS map with satellite pics of the area around me. You can still see the "impression" of some of the old roads. Too many trees to see building foundations, though... And so much of it is built up or covered with asphalt...:'(
