No idea how it got to Iowa, Strange, today I found a 1878 Spanish coin here in rural Derbyshire :dontknow:

It is not that surprising. The first official American settlement in Iowa began in June 1833, in the Black Hawk Purchase. The coin would have been 8 years old. I am sure you have coins much older than 2001 in your pocket right now! Back then coins circulated for much longer periods of time. There were not many collectors pulling them out of circulation and every coin was so important as currency.
