Oldschool Drywasher

I thought that I would post some pics of my newest acquisition. It is a drywasher made around the 1950's that I won in a drawing at my monthly meeting of the El Paso chapter of the G.P.A.A... Not bad for a dollar. Oh, and yes it runs.

I've seen more than a few like that spawn!

Hate 'em a lot!
Shovelling dirt into the top in a cloud of dust and noise!
Never did like dry washers!

and the motor is right there in the center of the dust!

We did those for a few years, way back when, out in the desert.

When I discovered suction dredges I immediately put all that dry dusty stuff behind me!

Splashing in a creek during a hot dry summer is far better IMO.

Ha! Ha! I tried a number of times to go pro... on my terms.
Never quite made it.
I could have gave up my qualifiers and simply went where the gold actually WAS rather than what was convenient or within easy reach! Ha! Ha!

I live up here in the desert, so the majority of the prospecting is done with drywashers. I prefer taking my recirculating sluice though.

Looks like a dry and dusty endeavor, like chopping cotton. I went out and panned in Clear Creek over by Silver Plume today. Lots of mica in the pan that looked real pretty, but just floated away. Someday beginner's luck will kick in, maybe.

I've seen people do very well.

I'd like to see you up on that banner with a handful of Au taken with that duster!

Many improvements to the drywasher design can be implemented . For example the hopper can be fitted with a vibrating medium e.g motor to help get rid of the oversize. Also a chute to drive the over-sized material away form the dywasher. may be make the whole thing stand on a trailer of some kind, or adjustable legs . Also a way to protect the motor from dust without making it suffer from over heating (some how let it cool down) ?
