TWO nice digs! Congrats. The best thing you can do is soak them in olive oil for possibly months. Then pick what you can off with a toothpick. Other methods to get it off will make the coin look bad.

Re: Oldschool's finds 4/22 @ town hall

Congrats on the 2 center, and patriot coin!

Good luck,
HH.

Nice coins, if ya want to get the patina off ya need to give it a bath in hot peroxide. If you put it in olive oil there will be nothing more you can do to that coin ever! I have seen more key date coins ruined by oilve oil than almost anything. I do most of my coppers that I get in the peroxide and have had great results. Start first by using a non key date wheatie then when you feel confident go to the 2 center.

Straight peroxide, and Q-tips work wonders!

Re: Oldschool's finds 4/22 @ town hall

Congrats on the finds  I like using the hot peroxide method on my non key date coppers as well, but just a word of caution, you may want to consider doing this in the garage or outside where you have plenty of ventilation. I have had people in my house complain that their noses start burning, even if I do it in the basement. When you heat the peroxide and drop a coin in,you can see the gasses escaping the container.I'm no scientist, but I would venture a guess that if it is strong enough to make your nasal passages burn,it may not be good for you to breathe them.So just as a precaution I will do this outside from now on and would advise anyone else to do the same. Thanx all and HH Rookie2
