- MineLab Excal II & Bounty Hunter Land Star
A little bit of sun, a fully charged Excal II, about 2 miles as the crow flies I guess from Martha Washington's old homestead, the White House. I've hunted this land before knowing some of its history. The land had activity before the Revolutionary War and remained active until well after the Civil War. In the past I had found military buttons, a musket trigger and guard, lots of bullets and a few coins. Two months ago I found a 1943 silver half dollar....it glistened like a star when it popped out of the hole, last year it was a late 1890's dime. But his time its wasn't a tone I was familar with, if you've been near an Excal you know what I mean when I say it takes time to learn the tones. Well, I'm all for the odd and unique, which is why I love you guys so much so when that odd tone came through I had to dig. The dirt stuck to it was like concrete so I had to wait until I got home to soak it... the rest of the hunt I had to beat off the other detectorist who wanted to spit and rub on it.
What a surprise, a copper coin, she's seen better days indeed but once cleaned up some and had a jeweler check it out under his batman glasses, looks like maybe a 1718 dump half penny. Woohooo, happy dance.
