Here's a link to a 1900 (surveyed) Florence topo.
Those plates....benchmarks.... can be found wherever you see a "BM" and "X" on the topo.....typical for land-surveyed topographical maps.
Surveyors always begin a survey job from one of those locations......been there/done that

Nothing the survey crew wouldn't have noticed, when they were there while setting the benchmark plaque/plate.
