Got out yesterday with Jim Bertolasio, first time we have hunted together. Plan A was to check out some woods near Mad Anthony Wayne’s 1792-1793 encampment at Legionville. After a couple hours of climbing steep hills that were slippery from frozen ground and digging nothing but shotgun shells, I suggested we drive about 40 miles to one of my well pounded standby sites. Here we both managed to come up with a nice keeper, mine being a Irish Hibernia King George III, and Jim’s being the find of the day – a beautiful Spanish Coin facsimile button with a crisp 1767 date.

For more information on these Spanish coin buttons and cufflinks, see this site:

Great hunt Steve. I hope you can get over that Hibernia-is it contagious?-LOL. WTG, Q.

That button is so cool! :-)

Well, you certainly know how to get on board! Looks like a couple more months maybe up here.

Beautiful saves! That button is great!

Thanks George, I would have loved to find that button too. I have found several of them before, but that it the nicest one I have see with the crisp detail.

Nice finds, Steve. Congratulations. You can see more info about these buttons in BOTONISTICA. EXONUMIA , yours is coincident with #BOT217 (number 26), but different stamp.

It is curious, although we can find these buttons in Spain, they are not so common (I think) as they are in USA East Cost.

Best regards.

I think the Hibernia is one of the coolest designed coins. I'm Irish and likely a bit biased but my 1760 is one of my favorite coppers in my relatively small collection. My gosh you have been around a lot of those coin/buttons or links. Coincidentally that too is one of my favorite finds. But you already know this 8-)

I can clearly see the 17 on the left of the harp, but I can't make out the numbers on the right of the harp. Maybe if I stare at it a little harder :laughing7:

Just a thought buddy but when I found the 1812 pewters I couldn't make out much detail. So I placed them on a red cloth in a dark room and shined my led light across them and took pics. The detail popped like crazy. Wondering if you could get a date on the copper this way?

Awesome finds

Steverino how the heck did i miss this post!
Sweet copper and that button is lovely..How the heck did you miss it:laughing7:Days when every hunter in the party grab something is always a good feeling..
Mad Anthony ha it reminds me of my favorite character in Boardwalk Empire,"Gyp" Rosetti..

And then he rolls up on some fellas after taking his hat!

Thanks for the link tormes. Good pictures of various examples. They do seem to be fairly common here, although they are always nice to find. Here are some others that I have found. All cuff links I believe. The pair in the middle is linked together. Not a very good picture, sorry.
