Hi all,

Today is shaping up to be a beautiful day here in St. Lou with temps hitting the 60's..still VERY muddy though from flooding rains over the last 2 weeks, but still possible to hunt the higher areas.

This morning I got out early and went to a couple of grade schools, one had a soccer field in back that held a decent amount of quarters. I also found another dollar coin in the playground chips (my 5th one in the last 2 weeks!) This one was a George Washington dollar, but I wanted to show the other side for once (nicest looking side of the coin IMO).

The next school had a small ball field with lots of mud, but also a good amount of quarters. I also found a silver dollar sized token..the date 1789 was on it and had me wishing it was actually from that time, but I'll take what I can get..if anyone knows anything about this token please let me know, it's amazing how something this large could get lost :icon_scratch: ???

My total was 29 quarters, 12 dimes, 5 nickels, 25 pennies, a $1 coin. I also found a pendant and a flag pin (not in photo) and a piece of a shotgun shell. No rings today.

Nice job again, Nat.

I found a little info about your US Mint token:

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Coin-Collecting-2297/1789-token.htm

It's a brass souvenir you can purchase when visiting the US Mint in Denver. A 1970's souvenir at the latest.

Good luck with your "Guitar" fund. I have a few guitars of my own. Haven't played in a long, long time. I have an ESP Strat, a Jackson electric, and an Ovation 1869 Custon Legend acoustic-electric.

Nat,
Clad you got out for another sweet haul. That token is a neat find. Congrats.

I agree. I actually never knew that design was on the back until I saw this post. It had me fooled when I saw the picture. I thought it was an old silver coin. :tongue3: Do all the new dollar coins have that on back, or just George?
Great hunt!!!

Thanks for the info Captn..this is probably the largest (and heaviest) token I've ever dug.

Those are nice guitars you have. My Ovation is model 1627 acoustic/electric, the same kind Glenn Campbell played back in the day..I got it in 1982. I also have a customized 1989 US Deluxe Strat (that really smokes!) and a Yamaha DW-4S acoustic flat top that I used as a studio guitar when I used to record.

Thanks Doug..yes I believe the Statue of Liberty design is on the reverse of all the presidential series coins..whoever designed it really did a beautiful job.

Re: One BIG Token -Nice finds

Congradulation on your recent finds. My detecting friend just moved to Lake St Louis, and hasn't had much chance to go detecting. He is Pretty good with a detector using a Fisher and used to live in Ohio,

Keep us posted on your finds-thanks and Good Luck-goldnugget-Charlotte-North Carolina

Thanks Harry, since I bought my Prizm in September 2006, I found about $920 in lost change..finding places that yielded tons of quarters helped get me to that amount pretty fast!

The token rang up as a half..most of my other smaller ones rang out as pennies. Digging those penny signals got me a pretty respectable collection of tokens.

I'm gonna have to run my coil over some rings I've already found so my detector can pick up the scent again..she may have forgotten how to sniff 'em out :D

Nat, good luck with the guitar funds. It's good to see a few other musicians who detect on here. Most of my musician friends think I'm absolutely nuts cause I'm SO into metal detecting. But they think it's pretty cool when I show them old coins I've found.
I have 2 Les Paul Standards, a 92, and a 98, and 2 American Standard Strats, both about 7 yrs. old. All my guitars are Lefties.
At the moment, I'm pretty content with my gear, so the next time I cash in my clad, jewelry, silver Washingtons, and Rosies, it's going towards my next detector!

Happy hunting!

PS: Those pick-ups in the Deluxe Strats really DO kick a$$!

Nice stuff Nat. The guitar fund grows

Not a bad tally Natman, that Prizm is proving itself to be a winner. And that's not mentioning the jewelry you dug up either. I hope my Prizm will produce for me this year, if I could only find the time and the energy to start hitting it as hard as you do.

Yeah, my tokens all rang up as solid pennies too, surprised that one rang up as a half. Must be the metal content. I'm gonna have to start digging those half signals more often now. Just hate digging up the can's.

Those tokens are so exciting to find ain't they Natman? You get a rush when you see it cause you know it ain't a common coin.. They are really interesting and a change of pace from digging up all that clad.

Harry......
