One cent without copper plating

Found this coin in dime roll while CRH today. Looks like mint error, no copper plating. Or copper somehow was removed. Have no idea...
Any suggestions are welcome.

Unlikely to be a mint error, kids in chemistry class strip copper coatings off of zinc pennies all the time here in the US, I'd expect it to be about the same in Canada. A neat little novelty but post mint damage I believe.
