I'd like to get an identification on 2 points and what you think they are worth if you all don't mind helping me out. These were found in Scott County, Tennessee under a cliff/ overhang on private property about 35 years ago. They were found right next to each other. I am interested in selling them to get me a new metal detector. I'd rather not sell them but I can't raise the money any other way. If you all could help me I sure would appreciate it very much.

Thank you very much ohioaxeman. I have no clue what one would be worth. Do you have a guess?

Re: Clovis or dalton?

hard to tell what its worth unless i was holding it...you may get 250 -500 bucks.. but like i said before, its just my opinion on it being a dalton, and the flute is another story! stick around and we'll see what others say!

Re: Clovis or dalton?

Maybe a modified Clovis? No doubt later cultures found earlier points just like we do today. Maybe a late Paleo or even early Archaic picked up a Clovis and modified it to their likeing, the possibilities are almost endless. Sometimes it's a guessing game identifying points such as yours, and I must say, it's a nice one regardless what it may be labeled as being.

Re: Clovis or dalton?

Anyone know if it could have been a cumberland and just reworked. Cumberland, clovis or what ever it is, its a very nice and unique point. Just by looking I would say dalton know but it being b/w two different point types would this make the artifact worth anymore than regular. Someone will help you out and give a answer.

Re: Clovis or dalton?

Looks to be a Redstone...rare, rare point.

Re: Clovis or dalton?

Why isn't it a cumberland. It was found in tennessee and it's fluted all the way up. Killer point man, I'd say you could get a pretty good metal detector for that one.

Re: Clovis or dalton?

Thanks for all of the replies. I have tried to figure out what type point it is but I couldn't come up with an answer that I felt even a little bit satisfied with. You all are great to help me out with this. Every opinion I can get will be appreciated. Thanks so much.

Re: Clovis or dalton?

Looks like my cumberland except my two cumberlands have fluting on both sides. Nice points.

Here is about 85 shell beads that I found in a cave in Roane county, Tennessee about 33 years ago. I would be interested in selling these also. Thank you for looking.

What would want for the Beads?. I would be very interested in getting them from you. Let me know either on here or through a PM. Thanks.

Re: One is a Clovis or dalton? And what do you think they are worth?

I just wanted to say that I removed the pictures of the beads. I kept getting a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach every time I thought about selling them. It still makes me smile every time I think about finding them. If I could get some more feedback on how much you all think I could sell the arrowheads for I would appreciate it very much. Have a good one.

hello,

I would like to look at those points. I would like to have a chance to buy them. I live in Tennessee. I would meet you somewhere to look at them or whatever. I found a point like that last year and it was red. It was fluted on one side also. I would appricate it if you would give me an e-mail at jeremycapley@hotmail.com. I am not a dealer just a collector. I would give a fair price.

nice finds

Here's some more pics of the second point. What type do you think it is? Thanks!

Like others had already said, Redstone on the first one, and a dang nice one...(I would never be able to afford it and give you a fair honest amount for it though), and the other one, I think is what is called a Fishspear point.(And the nicest one I thing I ever seen) Not that it was used for fishing but it was origionally thought to resemble a fish when first identified as a diagnostic point type. Those are some SUPER points though!!
Good luck and I hope you get a decent price for your finds if thats what you want.

I decided to send that arrowhead off to get it authenticated. By the time I paid for the authentication, shipping, insurance, return shipping, insurance and return receipt it cost $58.00.... Dang, I didn't think it would cost that much. I guess that if I ever decide to do that again I better be sure I have a very good one to begin with, lol... I'll let you know what type he says it is. Have a good one.

I'm going to say it's a re-worked paleo.
Second one looks like a killer Duvall style point.
