I went out to a spot near home and found square plate. You can see it is decorative and on the backside was hinged at one end. It is fairly heavy gage. Also, the numbered item next to it, is that a welding tip or something? Thanks. Bryan

Nice finds, I love gettin them old whats it relics and such. Good luck on your next dig! :headbang:

The numbered piece is a valve. Possibly natural gas. The handle that's missing would have a hole in the "tab" to match up with the small hole you see there, so that it could be locked in the off or on position.

I thought the numbered brass fitting was the head to a gas street lamp. I guess not.

Actually, I'm not really sure what it was used for. I was just applying logic due to the design. i.e., It has what appears to be a square valve stem, a large "inlet" and a smaller "out-let". It appears that the valve-stem handle would have made a maximum (about) 355 degree turn from one stop to the other.

And I could be totally wrong about the natural gas. Water meter valves only turn 90 degrees from off to on.

In any case, I would agree that these are some good (and thought prevoking) finds.

Thanks for the great comments, I guess some items will just remain a mystery....
