Only my second day hunting this year.....Hunted & old town site along the river that is now a corn field. First two inches frozen then un-thawed eight inches & solid below that!
Also found three buttons & half a dozen musketballs. One flat button had an "Aaron Benedict, Extra Gilt", backmark (1812-1823).
Not bad digs for Iowa!!

Thanks for looking!

excellent bust dime. congrats!

Congratulations on a great coin find ! I am mystified by how deep the rim is on the obverse from about 8 O' clock - to 1 O'clock if
it were a clock face - compared to the reverse - ?

Me too, Argentium.....the reverse has about 1/2 the rim not there.(and not just from wear)

I was wondering about the rim, too. The whole coin looks a little odd to me... :icon_scratch:

Nice old coin. Great shape other than the mystery rim.

Great finds! Thanks for sharing...

Nice capped bust! I could live with just digging one coin a hunt if I was pulling those out of the ground :laughing7:, Thanks for sharing HH.

Freakin fantastic coin right there!

Very nice detail on that one congrats!

That's on my list! Awesome find!........HH!

NICE!!! It looks like an uneven planchet strike. (the planchet had uneven thickness when it was made prior to striking) Congrats and HH!

Nice coin. Appears to be a Davis-4. 99% sure of variety. Wouldn't say it was necessarily an error, probably just unequal pressure when it was minted. Nice find! Hogge
