Only my second day hunting this year.....Hunted & old town site along the river that is now a corn field. First two inches frozen then un-thawed eight inches & solid below that!
Also found three buttons & half a dozen musketballs. One flat button had an "Aaron Benedict, Extra Gilt", backmark (1812-1823).
Not bad digs for Iowa!!

Thanks for looking!

Nice coin. Appears to be a Davis-4. 99% sure of variety. Wouldn't say it was necessarily an error, probably just unequal pressure when it was minted. Nice find! Hogge

Thanks Hogge.....What book do you have that shows the different varieties? I, too, was guessing it was a bad planchet & as you said, not an actual "error".

If your only going to find one... That is a great one to find. Congrats!

Breens Encyclopedia, but I also cross reference on other web sites.

I ordered Breens on an inter-library loan, as it was on line, but now has been taken down. They are pretty pricey to buy!
Thanx again, Hogge!

Dale, killer find and consistent with the collection of your finds that I was honored to see those few years ago. Although the capped density is dwindling in your area, it's a mark of a great detectorist to eke out those that still remain! My hat is off to you! Congratulations!

Great find! One of my buddies found one of those a few weeks ago. I am still waiting to find my first.

Sweet Dime! Love the capped bust silvers but they rarely come my way!

Picked mine up used for $150

Capped coins are infrequent finds in any condition, and yours is a beautiful coin. It took me 20 years to dig my first Capped silver coin.

Very nice coin... WELL DONE !!!

One them is on my list also.. but prolly quite rare hear in Canada.

CONGRATS !!!!!!!!!!!

congrats, nice find!
