Any history on it? Odds are way against it but good luck.

Since you asked... it looks like a bit of a mix of styles and the material looks like high grade imported countertop material.

That said, I recognize that I am not an expert in birdstones. I've seen a bunch of authentic ones that have been in old collections, handled lots of good ones at different auctions, but I've long since stopped trying to figure out authenticity. If it is documented and pictured in older books, then I'm interested, otherwise I don't know that it's possible to tell anymore.

Looks kinda odd. Still nice item. Where did you get it?

Was there any info about it when purchased as far as the history of it ? Surely if authentic a piece like that would have a story to go with it.

I think you misidentified it.

My first impression is that I like it. The proportions look correct. Material is an odd porphyry, but porphyry is the correct material for one of these. Having said that, there are probably more fake popeye birdstones out there than real ones. Hope it's a good one. Good luck! Gary

To each their own, but there's no way in hell I'm gonna "fork out plenty" for any artifact on ebay if I have any doubts about its authenticity. The time to know if it's real is before bidding, not after.

no, i can tell you now...sorry but no....

I dont remember what the seller description of it was. My 2 stone pipes were reproductions but that was a different seller. Just hope this is a good one lol.

Got the results back from IAGA, modern reproduction, dam wth lol.

That’s too bad , I think authentic ones are very few and far between still a nice piece for collection but hopefully it didn’t cost you too much.

Looks like some kind of pink granite to me...super hard material to work.

Sorry to hear those results, man.

It sucks but what i don't understand is how many ppl i was bidding against, i was not sure if it was fake or not but with ppl having high feedback scores i thought maybe its not fake. Live and learn. Before i send another artifact in i might just post it here you guys are 3 for 3 saying repo lol.

the only artifacts i would ever buy at auction would be field grade pieces.
