I CRH in the U.S. for a small while but gave up after i searched 1000's of dollars worth of coins to find 1 dime, i live in Cancun, Mexico now, the number 1 tourists destination in all of the Caribbean and Bahamas. I was thinking what if i went to the banks here asking for half dollars, maybe throughout the years they have been adding up? Searching for silver pesos is unrealistic but maybe there will be some American silver in a bankers hands and they dont even know that it's silver since it's a foreign currency.

What do you think?

Jesse, let us know if you find any.

I own a metal detector, nothing cheap too. A White's Dual Field, brand new. These beaches are filled with gold, i know someone who works on worse beaches and has ozs and ozs of gold from all his finds. I went metal detecting but their are really hot girls here at the beach and i'm 21. It's hard to concentrate and work effectively. Not to mention i feel shy MDíng since kids our age are just so judgmental, call me more open minded then the rest. So yes if i could swallow my ego i could MD every day if i wanted but i dont so the massive amounts of gold and silver stay in the beach. No one else MD's here either nor do they sell them here or know what they are. The locals are like damn what is that machine its so cool and the tourists are like serious... that guy is metal detecting... im going to throw a peso in front of him. It's why i only been 4 times

Understandable. With the massive number of people on those beaches I can only imagine the finds to be had!! Maybe try during off season if there is one?? Or some from md at night using a light - a little too hard core for me. I also wonder if there would be a change to find anything Mayan or Spanish colonial?

Yes, someone has found a copper mayan coin which may proof they were crafting with metals BUT he was MDíng in a very illegal area stealing that artifact. I personally know these beaches would only produce new items, relics like that would have be to searched in others places. Cancun was man made in 1967, before then their was nothing here so nothing old. MDíng at night is hard and dangerous the light can attract sharks or other creatures not to mention i've only been mding 4 times and one of those times i almost swam into a 3 foot sting ray at 6 am. The waves in Cancun are really rough too, it's never calm unless your at a certain point in the hotel zone and up back to downtown.

I'd just stick with the dry and wet sand - prob plenty to find without going for a swim.
