Ornate Item - What Is It?

I found this ornate item recently. I'm not sure what it is. It looks like it could be the end of a knife or letter opener, but it has a small clip on the bottom which is confusing to me. Any thoughts?

Maybe take a pic with it next to a coin to give us a reference for it's size.

I think you ID'd it
It looks like a end cap to a letter opener/knife

Thanks very much for posting the pic I suggested Doug, your photo now gives us perspective for it's size. :thumbsup:
The butt of a pocketknife of some sort would make sense, but it may have come from any number of utilitarian objects.

Based on the metal, probably zinc or pot metal and the decoration style, I'd say it dates to the early 20thc. :icon_scratch:
