Ornate lid...to what I have no idea!

Anyone ever see anything like this before. Made of sturdy brass or copper. Gold patina with fancy pattern. No wording noted.

Back to a watch , compact of some sort ? A lid / top to something ? What I do notice is you must be hunting a spot that was hunted by old timers . Another person detecting poked that thing right in the center .Before we had pin pointers long prods or ice picks were used to locate the target . Sharp tip on the end would bend or penetrate the target indicating no coin / no dig . I know an old timer with a coin master with a jar full of old large silver all with dents in them from his prod . He sent me to some of his old spots and I dug so many things with poke holes .
 

does it have or had a hinge? I didn't see where one had been
