Brass or copper lid...to what I have no idea!

Found this lid house built in 1870. Very sturdy metal either copper or brass. No wording anywhere but very ornate with gold patina noted. Has anyone seen anything like this?

I agree with AARC, pocket watch case. From the pictures it could be brass, copper or possibly gold. Five years or so I
found a complete 14 ct gold pocket watch. Even with 14 ct stamp on the back case I needed more information. What
I learned if any other types of metals like silver, brass or copper were used the watch case would be rigid or stiff
while a gold case will be a little flexible. Since it looks like you found the front case lid of the watch, a acid test is the only
way to go.
