Copper will have that green patina so definitely copper is involved. Most gold plated items are gold plate over copper. That would explain the gold gilt around edge.

Very interesting find, eftspa! Dove pendants like these symbolize the Holy Spirit and are often given as confirmation gifts. Here's a modern one for sale on Amazon – no mistaking that profile.
