Over the last 5 years I have tried many machines out. Ask around everytime I want to try out a new one and Tesoro would come up. Not sure why I never tried one until now, other they seemed to light, small and didn't have a ton of features. So I went with the most talked up and lastest machines.
I guess I finally got tired or annoyed enough with these chattering, heavy and expensive machine for coin shooting to start looking at a Tesoro to try out. Figured I would start with just a basic affordable proven unit and work up from there. I have a guy thats been suggesting to try a Golden Saber for years. So when one came up I jumped on a Golden Saber Plus.
Well the other day I got a chance to take about 3-4 hours with the machine and go to the park. I set it up to give a lower tone for nickels/Pts and a high tone for pennies and above. Wasn't sure what to expect or even how well it would reject iron and junk. I did know after about 2 minutes that it hammers coins 4-5" down very loud. But after about 5" the tone gets very weak but it does repeats over them and you have to listen close.
For coin/jewelry shooting in the parks, tot lots and sports fields this is going to be a great fun machine. I collected 52 coins, little over $3.00, and probably only really hunted a couple of hours after talking to the Parks directorand an old timer that got a kick out seeing me using an old Golden Plus. Said thats all him and his buddies used to clean all the silver out of the park in the 70s and 80s. I told him thanks a lot and he said theres still alot in there for me.
There is only a few machine out of the 20 or so I have tried in the past that really surprised me and I loved to coin/jewelry hunt parks with. One was the Whites M6. It was pretty chattery but after a few months it found me more coins and jewelry per hunt then any other machine. The other was my Classic II which was a great parks machine but lacked any depth to speak of. And now the Golden Plus.
For the money, I can't see how a beginner or novice could beat it. The depth is pretty good and target separation seems tight. The recovery rate is fast enough for me with the 7" and 8" coils and it only made a sound over the targets. No chatter, constant threshold sound and blinking screen information. I didn't dig a piece of iron or foil the whole time I hunted in this trashy place. I did dig 20 some tags with the 4 nickles. But that is my gold range and I like that lower tone to ID that range.
One thing I would like to have is a manual GB as I know its off a little in my soil. It squeal really bad when I lay it down or lift the coil a little to high over stuff. It also tones on any asphalt and some concrete (like sidewalk edges) I run it over.
BTW, are there any newer coils that fit this machine that might work even better on it. Would like to try a 5" coil for those tight spots in the tot lots and park benches. If anyone knows if the machine can be GBed for my area I would like to hear about it also.
