Oxidized cents, local region or nationwide?

Doing several boxes of pennies over several months and have noticed a high concentration of GREEN oxidization on the copper cents. Could this be only a Midwest event due to snow/salt event, or do you guys down south, southwest, westcoast, seeing the same thing?

You must be getting all the pennies that get tossed into fountains.

Once one copper rusts it spreads to all others touching it. So in theory if every cent is touching every other cent then it's just a matter of time until they're all like that.

If you are having so many oxidized cents, than maybe you should clean some of them so that the oxidation doesn't get on all cents, including Wheaties.

not many people, if any, are going to take their time and clean pennies.

You can use a tumbler if you have one.

happens here in the north eastern PA area - I have a small tupperware container of them (the unclean coins that I'd be afraid would jam a coin sorter!) I have pulled zincons out of the ground that basically just fell apart- acidity of digging them up near pine trees was my best guess. sometimes you'll find an off tone one, and it will be a partial as the coin is going back in to the ground.
it's likely a conspiracy to get pennies out of circulation * lmao! *- after a time they will just dissolve away... no need to pull them back in and melt them down- once they aren't copper anymore I guess no one would want them anyhow right?
