I need help with ID of this button. I saw it on a couple of websites as military but couldn't find enough info.

Old police button. Post a picture of the backmark if it has one. That’s the key to accurately dating these buttons since they were used CW and after

Yep, Police button. My dad's uniform coats from the early 70's had those buttons.

That particular backmark with the three stars/dots preceding Waterbury dates 1890-post 1900.

Looks as though a fellow Tnet member found a button with the same backmark and somebody found the “WATERBURY BUTTON CO ***” backmark in a book. The book says it’s circa 1890-1900s.
