This is a oil painting I did when I was 18. I was aboard the aircraft carrier Constellation in the Tonkin Gulf off the coast of Vietnam at the time. I thought I had done well as I had no training, no easel, and nothing to look at for reference. Didn't even have very many colors to work with. I call it "The Hermit". It is supposed to represent an old guy losing everything due to the death of his dog. I came across it a couple days ago and figured I'd hang it up again. It's a little larger than this pic and it's framed.

That's a great compliment coming from you Digs. I bought all new paints over a year ago hoping to get back into painting but haven't yet. At least not to the extent I want. Thank you

Thats a great painting PB. You should get back into it, for sure-

Its really a good painting...he looks so grief stricken
You really should start painting again

Impressive and expressive. I like it. Get your easel back out!

I agree with all the above, An excellent painting that is very expressive. Well done Packer B.

Gotta agree with everything already said...curious though..any special reason, considering the curcumstances you were in at the time, you chose this subject to paint?... just being nosey..

Packer,,,I agree with the others. That's what a lot of folks would call a "God-given" talent. You are probably my age and I say, START PAINTING AGAIN! ;D

Thanks for the compliments all. I'm not sure Copperhead about why I painted it. I will say we had a Collie for 15 years. (my entire childhood) We had to put her down shortly before I entered the military. Still miss that dog. :'(

FANTASTIC artwork. I agree with everyone here. Break out that easel!

As a painter myself....
This is very good what i look for in true artists painting is does it speak to you and have an expression
this is some of the best iv seen in some time dont let that talent go to waste.
looks to me like you must have been home sick when you painted this photo
a artists paintings reflect his moods at the time he or she paints them.
