My Wife and I will be hiking/camping and exploring Cherokee N.F. We want to give panning a try. Long hikes/ backpacking will be involved so weight is a big issue. Besides the pans, permit and a small garden shovel to pan small creeks and streams what other equipment would you recommend. Thanks!
crevicing tools and a good metal spoon a brush good luck and have fun

Something to screen with. I find those colanders in the kitchen supply aisle at the grocery store are cheap and work great. Also if there's alot of black sand in the area theres a $6 pen style magnet on amazon.
