Panning in massachusetts

It all depends where you are and the mineralization in the area.Take a look and see if you can find any quartz and or black sand.

I would certainly try to look but I believe most of this area was ocean bottom not that long ago (in terms of earth's lifespan). I live on an area that is 200+/- feet above bedrock (I had a new well drilled a few years back, ... south/east NH). I know right here was compressed by glacers and underwater for many years after their retreat. Let us know what you find.

wil do
i did seesome black sand but not a substantial amount
as for quarts there seems to be some here and there

I live near Foxboro stadium and know that in 1890 there was a gold mine in Wrentham, I know the approximate location and have been meaning to contact the owners of the property. It ran for 10 years but the gold was hard to recover at that time and the farmer went lost his land due to unpaid taxes. So there is some here but...

I have heard tales of the Blue Hills having gold, I know they had large granite quarries there and the blue hills are basically bedrock. But the whole area is glacial drift.

Where in Eastern Mass are you?
