Past few months have been a bit crazy with work and the new house so it’s been a while since I’ve gotten out but boy oh boy was it worth the wait! While I was in between calls at the firehouse I’ve been making a list of properties that I wanted to hit once I got some days off before the ground freezes and it totally paid off. Ended up getting out for a few hours each of my days off the past two weeks and not only did I find some wonderful silver coins but I absolutely almost died when I pulled my bucket lister from the cold soil behind the last stop of my day. We all dream of the coins we read about, someday finding them in a freshly dug hole after hearing that sweet sound ringing in our ears, well it happened once again. In 4 hunts about 6 hrs each covering 7 small lots with dwellings on them I slowly pulled a bunch of relics, coins and some typical trash and iron tools from the soon to be frozen ground, I ended up with 4 silver coins and some cool other stuff ranging from the 1700s-present day eras, one of the cool finds was a pocket spill containing 3 silver coins(Washington,Rosie,Merc) and a wheatie, other finds from the first few spots were another silver Washington, small Silver ring weighing 3grams, a 1700s Chien-Lung Japanese coin, and unknowingly soon the bucket lister that almost stopped my heart! I was hitting my last home built in 1860s and got a funky signal right at the woods line so of course I carefully dig my hole and pop out the plug and as the dirt falls away I see the edge of what I’m thinking is a Largie, carefully I clean off the dirt and there she is!!! 1787 FUGIO CENT!!!! I literally just sat down next to the hole, lit up a smoke and said NO EFFIN WAY, I carefully placed it in a small ring box and finished up the lot finding one more Silver Washington and a few clad coins. I got home and carefully with plain water and a spray bottle cleaned off the heavy dirt on the Fugio and not only is it a rare coin and an absolute bucket lister for any detectorist, but it’s a super rare dye clash on the back making it a Newman 17-I or 21-I Variety from what I researched, absolutely unreal :headbang:! Taking it to be slabbed ASAP!! Still can’t believe it! Enjoy and happy hunting my friends!

Significant Coins: Silver Washington Quarters- 42’,45-S,60
Silver Dimes- 41’ Merc, 57’ Rosie
1700s Japanese Coin

Hard to say with 100% certainty from the photos, but does look like a 21-I. Die clashes are extremely common on Fugios, it is the die variety that determines the rarity. If a 21-I it is classified as an R-5 I believe, which while not terribly rare is definitely better than average. Always loved the Fugio!

I didn't even look at your other finds! Lol Congrats on a great find, it is banner worthy.

Damn , you dug everything that was lost in the past 230 years . Serious digging from what I can see in your finds pics .

Crown jewel is the Fugio copper , thats a nice one too .....

really a great coin lol

I have always considered a Gold Coin to be automatically worthy of a Banner Vote. That Fugio ranks "Gold" in my books.
Congratulations

Looks like you more than made up for lost time! Congrats on those awesome finds!!

Congrats on all of your finds, and especially that bucket list Fugio Cent. It looks to be in great shape.

Thanks a lot guys it sure was an unbelievable feeling when I wiped the dirt off this coin. I’m not so worried about the “rarity” of the die, but the coin itself is just mind boggling I never thought I’d find one neverless in this condition. I absolutely love the historic value of the coin and what it worth then. Can’t wait to get her back in the slab I’ll definitely keep everyone posted.
