Looks like it might be some sort of plastering or tile laying tool for working on curved surfaces .

I could believe that one.

Non-Magnetic... Perhaps, stainless steel 1991

I'm leaning towards a specialty scraper. Like for moulding paint removal.

Sorry Angelo,
This one won't work, it's way too flimsy for that.
As far as the date goes, it's definetely 1891, not 1991 because they don't do that on items anymore (Pat Oct 27, 91).
Anyone know of a way to search this patent date without a patent number associated with it (yes, I already tried google, etc.). 8)

Yes, the mistery is solved! It is a cake decorating tool.
Someone on Kinzli's ID'ed it.
Thanks!

Well, I think it was originally found in one.

OK too bad you couldnt post a pic, reference or link from Kinzli for us to see. My Sears is 1909 and not complete.
I searched the patent date with the key words cake, cutter, triangle, triangular, edge but cant pull it up.

Dont forget to post the green check if you are satisfied with the ID.

I have looked through 1897, 1902, and 1915 and can't seem to find a match .. unless I overlooked it.
Did find some cake cutters, but none had serrated edges. :icon_scratch:

Are the Sears Roebucks catalogs online?

Coinshooter, is there a mark where the handle broke off?

I don't know if they are on line or not BC .. Those are the copies I have. I am not sure how something with an arched edge would serve any purpose in cake decorating? I know there is a "comb" they use for that purpose that is similar, but it has a straight edge.
