A friend of mine owns 4 pawn shops and he calls me and say's he has something that I might want. This came into one of his shop's and this is the story he was told. The sellers uncle worked in Panama for a long time and when he passed away this was given to him, needing a little cash, sells it and some guns. I have looked this thing over top to bottom under my microscope, washed the dirt off with a tooth brush and I can not find a modern tool mark no where on it. Just thought you would like to see this maybe Joshua will stop by, he seems to have a good handle on items from that part of the world. pawn shop find 013.webppawn shop find 014.webppawn shop find 018.webpThe last photo I think my lens fogged up sorry! If it's real I got a steal, if it a fake I got a deal. I gave my buddy back what he had in it $25.

its a shame it has some damage on the top.

Hopefully Joshua will stop by. I think its ok. Here are some head/face effigy pieces off of pottery south of us. Is yours stone or clay?

Yes, Joshua will have the best handle on this. It reminds me of Olmec style.....

Is the top of the head broken off? Olmecs usually had elongate heads like this....

Olmec is right, looks like a very nice piece. The mouth made from two drilled holes with the lips carved between them is classic Olmec workmanship.
