Had a good afternoon coin shooting, in a local park. Loads of pre decimal copper coins, and a 1873 Queen Victoria silver shilling. Artifact wise a copper what looks like a vespa case (match holder) Edwardian, and a lovely silver brooch, looks 1920s/30s. One curious find though is the US Navy pearl Harbour tag.Where the name should be as been deliberately defaced. Whether the tag is genuine, or modern, I don't know.
Robert.

weird tag.... It's definitely newer than WW2. As to what exactly it is I have no idea, but not US military I'm sure of that.

Cheers Ken, yes it's a bit of a strange one.

Just got a date on the little silver brooch. It's Chester hallmarked for 1912.
Robert.

Glad to see you out! Better getting silver in a park then no silver!

old dog tag blanks had a notch in the bottom end so if you died they jammed it between you teeth

Here's a picture of the little silver brooch cleaned.
Robert.

Hello westfront, hows things in Germany, give the Greeks a break:laughing7:

:laughing9: Out in the fields with the dogs instead of detecting...The last field we had (with that Denarius) was planted this week. Now we're hoping for a random field with the first potatoes out. All better fields are in crop or sugar beet....

Yes Westfront, most fields are cropped here also. Time for out of the box thinking. There's always somewhere to swing a search head. I may have an hour back at the local park later, it's stuffed with coins. There's not a lot of silver coins, but the odd item of silver jewelry is starting to appear. Robert.

Rob, Your novelty dog tag has the proper "English" way of spelling "Harbour," not "Harbor," as we Yanks know it. Probably a souvenir piece made after WW2. The silver brooch is beautiful! Sub 8-)
