Leave it. Is that a Louisiana Pelican coat button? I found one in Louisiana which is rare because they sent all our boys to Virginia. I had mine professionally cleaned. Great find

My own personal opinion, but I would not clean it any further. I only remove the dirt from my finds, and water them off, as I like to remember them the way they came out of the ground, (Except iron relics, which I will spray to keep the rust from flaking off). Excellent find.

I found one today that still has some gilt. I was surprised too because the only ones I'd seen were found on VA.

I found mine in North Louisiana.

Here’s mine that I found in South Louisiana. Maybe one day we can go swimming just let me know
