A Two-Center and a Fancy Gilded Button

I searched a former homesite in the woods this week. The area where the house once stood was completely overgrown and impassable, so I searched whatever nearby open spaces I could find. Shortly into my hunt, I dug this 1864 Two-Center, which is a rare find for me. The soil was super hardened onto the coin, which I tried removing with Andre’s pencils and toothpicks with limited success. I ended up soaking the coin in distilled water and am not real happy with the result, due in part to the corrosion. Also dug a few buttons, including a fancy button with some gilt remaining and one with an interesting cutout design. Thanks and good luck out there.

that's a nice 2 center as the 'WE' in the motto isn't worn off. It's too bad about the corrosion, but I'd still be thrilled with a find like that.

That two center look very good. You did a great job cleaning it up. Love that fancy button too. Its a funny thing when nature or the season dictates where we can swing a coil. Ground cover in the summer pushes us in one direction; snow cover may push us in another direction in the winter. I always trust that the detecting gods will point us in the right direction regardless of the season. Congrats on the finds.
