Pennsy Select

I found this (what appears to be soda) bottle in a privy some time ago and never got a response with any information about it. It appears to be a soda bottle, but there is nothing but "Pennsy Select" embossed on it. There is a small D.O.C. 1583 on the lower surface of the bottle. Help!

Pre-prohibition beer bottle. Beer was brewed and bottled by the Mutual Union Brewing Company located in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.
